"You know, sometimes you move too fast and you don't really wait on the Lord's answer, right?" Shanika G.
Angel: How do you stay organized, balancing personal life, business, mommy, wife, all of that stuff?
Shanika G.: I have to have a plan; and what I've realized is that it's not my plan.
What I used to do was make a to-do list. I'm gonna write down everything I gotta do and I gotta make sure that I do them all because if I don't, I failed.
I did not do what I was supposed to, right? Sometimes life got really busy. I mean, you have unexpected things.
My kids are in school. They forgot they things, I forget things. Things like that just pops up and you're like, that took an hour of time that I didn't realize and that got it to the to-do list.
I had to get away from being in control to try to get them all done to realizing like, okay, let me stop.
Let me ask God, okay, God, you know what I gotta do today? Show me the priority.
Show me how to do this because I don't want to be stressed out doing it. I don't want the end of the day to come; and I'm too drained to spend time with my husband or to hee hee ha ha with my girls. I don't want that.
So that was what I had to start doing; and then to be able to like kind of keep the space of work and personal life.
What I've done, I think everybody has always known about me. Like I am very serious about.
At the end of the work day, I don't know these work folks.
Shanika G. Having a good support system has helped me to stay organized and be able to balance and also just kind of changing my language around the balance part.
Angel: Why is it important for you to celebrate the small wins?
Shanika G. Because a lot of people, they're like, I'm only celebrating it when I reach this goal and they don't think about the little milestones that come along with it.
I feel like in the journey that you're walking through and the plan that you have, if you're not mindful of acknowledging every step that you take and, you know, you have those hard moments that show up and you're like, oh my God, another milestone.
How am I going to get through this? This is another bump in the road.
I'm supposed to be doing this, but then God works it out and it's better than what you thought it would be.
You're like, damn, I got to stop and celebrate that because I didn't think I was going to get past that part. I didn't think I can get past that part and I did.
I think it's just so important to make sure that you're celebrating every step of the journey as you conquer those small steps so that way you don't forget it.
